well hello there... I know, long overdue for an update

The good news is that I am alive, all is well, all is busy, and I finally have a working computer!  My poor mac that has been my workhorse was gettin' a little old in her age and needed a spack and paint job.  She's back, new and improved and I'm finding my work groove again :)  I have so many things to update on that I'm not really sure where to begin.

Maybe I'll start of with my recent trip to Marfa?  I know, marfawha?  It's a quirky little place in Texas, so close to the Mexican border that I could actually see Mexico and got to greet a border patrol man at one point.  A super small town with the most delightfully slow pace of life, the most gorgeous and unique sites, artwork, history, and did I mention quirkiness?  There's the Marfa Lights and Prada Marfa, both of which make you go, 'what?!'  I loved it, all of it.

The best part of the adventure though was the reason I was there.  13 women photographers from all over the US, sharing our love, our passion, our friendships.  It was an experience like no other.  We started sharing our adventures on a blog.  I'm humbled by the talent I was surrounded with.  As I was dealing with a sick computer, my posts have been a little delayed, but I have photos to share in the coming days.  It's fun to go back thru them even after we've left, it takes me back.  You can view our adventures here:

I'll be posting more in the coming days with tons of photo updates (way behind on those, it's been a busy summer!), scheduling updates, and other exciting news of things I've been working on :)

boys

are fun!  Always so different from my two girls, although I swear they're three times as crazy as any boy.

playing catchup... and some info for fall/holiday scheduling

With so much in and out of town the last few months, I've fallen a bit behind in the blog posting.  I have this gorgeous girlies order in and thought I'd pop in and share a couple from her session.  One year olds are fun!

And the note about fall/holiday scheduling.  I'm getting all of the important dates together now and will have a blog post up in the next few weeks when scheduling will be in full swing.  If you're afraid you might miss the post, send me an email amy@amysmithphoto.com.  Yes, that time is too quickly approaching :)

the end to the birthday week, and a little scheduling note

She's celebrated being five for six days now.  The words, "I'm the birthday girl" a permanent fixture in her vocabulary.  Her party today, parents endured the ridiculous heat, the kids swam until the cried about getting out.  She was deliriously happy.  I conned her into helping me decorate and do a few photos at the same time.

And now that that fun is wrapped up, momma is headed out of town in the morning.  I'm off to Marfa Texas to spend the week with some amazing women photographers from all across the country.  I'll be sure to update when I can.  In the meantime, I'll be checking email and voicemail as I'm able, so if you need me, just shout :)

And Happy Father's Day to all the fabulous daddy-o's out there!!

the waiting game...

I'm always happy when the time is up and I get to meet the little ones that were hiding in there.  I saw this little guy the other day for his newborn session, far too cute for words!  I'll have lots to post from his newborn session.  For now I had to share his cute momma and daddy.  Sweetest couple.

go on, make a face, you're allowed...

Most parents spend their time saying things like, 'stop making faces at each other'.  Me, I encourage it.

because I know after they do that, a. they think I'm kinda funny, and b. they just might collapse onto each other in a giggle.

vintage baby...

She lives in a quaint historic home, filled with the most fabulous vintage items.  Her clothes, blankets, all of it fabulously vintage.  And mom isn't afraid to let it be loved on and worn a little more, love that.  She's just as sweet as she can be.

when did it happen...

when did I blink my eyes and suddenly realize that five years flew by?  It couldn't have really gone that fast could it?  The late nights, the runny noses, the diaper changes, the giggles, the tears, the first words, the tantrums, the coos, the smiles, the 'firsts', the newborn, the baby, the toddler, no more.  She's been a little girl for a while, but the age of five seems like a bigger little girl.  I always ask her to please slow down and stop growing so fast.  She giggles and says, 'but I can't mommy'.  I guess that just means that I'll have to try even harder to stop time with my camera.  I really don't photography my own girls nearly enough.  You know, the whole 'shoemakers kids' and the fact the my own kids are harder than anyone else's kids to photograph.  So happy birthday to my baby girl.

the natural baby

I love a baby in the buff.  So comfy in their own skin.  They seem happiest this way too :)
